Farm Visit 30th November 2018 - View More

Bottle Irrigation for around 75 saplings which we planted last month. It is showing excellent results. This part of the land is far away from the water main line and i also wanted to test the performance of bottle irrigation.

Guava in the trench. They are now 18 month old and yielding fruits. But i instruct my farmer (Mahesappa) to ensure he does not allow the fruit to be borne. The plant needs to strengthen itself before start bearing fruits.

A nice view of a year old Malabar Neem. For some reason, 70 odd saplings of Malabar Neem i planted this year just did not perform well. I ll be surprised if the mortality rate is less than 50%. I had planted those along the newly erected farm fence at the end of this monsoon.

During this visit i made sure i get a good perspective of the how last year’s mango plantation has performed. I made Gurupada (Maheshappa's Son) stand beside the mango. There are three type of growth rates. The minimum is 4ft growth and max being 6ft. On an average the growth has been around 5ft. Exceptionally few of them have not progressed well and growth has been shunted at 3ft. We will take extra care of those which have under-performed.
Importantly, i have removed micro drip line to the saplings since the high mortality period is over. I will now supply water to these once in 15 days. It will stimulate the roots to penetrate deeper in the soil to fetch water.

I never knew i had planted Mehendi and Parijatha (flowering tree) along with People, Badam, Cherryfruit and many other bird attracting trees saplings (which i do not recognize right now) along our farm pond. It was a pleasant surprise for me when i discovered it. Just to remind, all these are just a year old. Am eager to see how big these will be by next year this time.
